AI is everywhere. The headlines promise breakthroughs, investors chase the next big thing, and leadership teams feel the pressure to "do something with AI." But too often, the hype burns resources instead of creating results.
What’s the problem with AI hype?
• 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴: Vendors sell moonshots, not roadmaps.
• 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Projects chase tech trends instead of business value.
• 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Data readiness, governance, and people change get overlooked.
• 𝗜𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Initiatives launch in silos, without cross-functional support.
The result? Disastrous losses in time, trust, and finances.
Where do Project Managers come in? We are the translators between hype and value. Our role is to:
• 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Ensure every AI project ties directly to measurable outcomes.
• 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Ask the tough questions about data, governance, and people before execution.
• 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Push back on shiny-object syndrome and highlight risks.
• 𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Bring the cross-functional team together—IT, data, business, and leadership.
• 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀: Move beyond delivery to measuring adoption, ROI, and real-world impact.
This is the gap we must bridge—turning lofty AI ambition into grounded, sustainable results.
